The Church of God has local Church of God congregations located throughout the world. While many languages and cultures from multiple continents are represented within these congregations, each local church bears the same name, adheres to the same Biblical teachings, operates within the same New Testament governmental principles as outlined in the scripture, has the same General Headquarters (located in Charleston, TN), and uses the same Church flag as is seen on our home page.
The primary mission of The Church of God is to fulfill the Great Commission (cf. Matthew 28:19,20; Mark 16:15,16) that Christ Jesus entrusted in our care when He organized The Church of God in 28 A.D. (cf. Mark 3:13,14 ; Luke 6:12-16). A brief history of the Church from that time is found on our General Headquarters website.
Fulfilling that commission means spreading the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ throughout this world (cf. Acts 1:8) by every available means, equipping the born again believer with the spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-18) needed to fight the good fight of faith, and gathering together all the children of God into One fold (John 10:16) in preparation for the return of Jesus Christ.
We accept the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible as the inerrant, infallible, Holy Ghost inspired Word of God. Born again Christian believers join The Church of God by entering into a covenant relationship with the Lord and each other by accepting the following covenant:
“Will you sincerely promise in the presence of God and these witnesses that you will accept this Bible as the Word of God-believe and practice its teachings rightly divided-the New Testament as your rule of faith and practice, government and discipline, and walk in the light to the best of your knowledge and ability?”
Our General Headquarters office complex and publishing facilities are located at 197 Tillie Road in Cleveland, TN. The mailing address is PO Box 450, Charleston, TN 37310. Please contact us by email, phone or writing to us if you have any questions and we will be glad to assist you in every way possible.
Basic Teachings of The Church of God
As our covenant given above indicates, we take the whole Bible “rightly divided” (cf. 2 Timothy 2:15). This could seem like a very broad statement capable of encompassing most any beliefs. To make clearer our understanding of what “rightly divided” means, we have identified twenty-nine biblical teachings that we believe are made “prominent” or emphasized by the volume of Scripture the Bible has devoted to them. Some of them are controversial within the religious world. Multiple conflicting interpretations of these scripture are promulgated by different denominations and religious followings.
These twenty-nine prominent biblical teachings are listed along with a brief description of each and with selected Scripture (though many more could be provided) that provide the foundation for each one. Thus, one begins to see what constitutes “rightly dividing the word of truth.”
The explicit listing of these twenty-nine Biblical teachings does not imply that they constitute a "Declaration of Faith" for The Church of God. Ultimately, as our covenant indicates, The Church of God accepts the whole Bible as our guidebook by which to live!
